Acoustics
Acoustics is the interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of all mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including topics such as vibration, sound, ultrasound and infrasound. The application of acoustics is present in almost all aspects of modern society with the most obvious being the audio and noise control industries.
Hearing is one of the most crucial means of survival in the animal world, and speech is one of the most distinctive characteristics of human development and culture. Accordingly, the science of acoustics spreads across many facets of human society—music, medicine, architecture, industrial production, warfare and more. Likewise, animal species such as songbirds and frogs use sound and hearing as a key element of mating rituals or marking territories. Art, craft, science and technology have provoked one another to advance the whole, as in many other fields of knowledge -

Sound Proofing Board
Sound Proofing Board sometimes referred to as “soundboard,” is a building material often used as an additional layer in the construction of soundproof walls, ceilings, and floors to reduce the transmission of sound. Soundboard can be used in conjunction with soundproof drywall (also known as “sound engineered drywall” and “soundproof sheetrock”) or in conjunction with regular drywall to achieve a soundproofing effect.
Sound Proofing Board blocks sounds in the following three ways: by increasing the space between the sound’s origin and the other side of the wall, ceiling, or floor; by adding mass to the conducting surface and by dampening or “absorbing” the sound.
Sound Proofing Board is often applied between sheets of drywall to form a sandwich. A special type of glue must be used to connect the sound deadening board to the drywall; however, there are some new materials on the market today that are very similar to Sound Proofing Board but do not require the use of glue. Overall, using sound deadening board to soundproof a room is a cost-effective way to reduce noise. -
Acoustic Fabrics
There are different acoustic fabrics used to wrap acoustical panels, cover speakers and amplifiers, or directly mount to a wall.
• Acoustical fabric for wrapping acoustical wall panels, such as our Guilford of Maine fabrics, are designed to let sound energy into an acoustical panel to do its job, rather than reflecting sound off the surface.
• Acoustone speaker fabric is designed to allow sound to travel through unrestricted from the speaker.
• The Crosspoint fabric is Class A fire rated, and is designed to absorb mid to high frequency sound, in order to reduce ambient noise and chatter in office areas.
